Locals celebrate the Fiestas de Tabacundo, a celebration of the town of Tabacundo located about 1 hour north of Quito. The beautiful Mojanda crater lakes are only about a 30 minute drive up the mountain from the town. The Fiestas are held annually in September following the San Pedro and San Pablo celebrations in August. Festivities include dancing, bull fighting and a carnaval.
